It all begins with an idea.
I have lived most of my life doing some sort of art, and will continue to do so. For me art is a part of my language, and a tool I use to better process, and understand the world around me. It can be a selfish solitary experience at times.
We used to travel a lot, then covid arrived, and everything changed. We never really started travelling again after it. Seeing and experiencing the world is a great way to find out more about oneself, and those around us. It is amazing how the energy of different coffee shops will create different styles, and moods of art. If you stay in one spot too long you stop seeing what is around you. I think art has a lot to do with discovery, and exporation proccesses.
Nothing stays the same.
Change is constant, and the more time we spend walking on this planet the harder it can be to understand change. Change is a dominant force in our lives right from the day we take our very first breath.
A lot of change I like. A lot of change I hate. The balance of likes to dislikes is also constantly changing. If we can’t accept change I think we live in a strained, and pressurized world. Swimming upstream in the flow of change will exahust you. Change is finding out your favourite bakery stopped making those tarts the way you like them. Change is watching your favourite sweatshirt fall apart, and whey you try to replace it it’s impossible. People change their minds, and their priorities. Lets face it, if you have an expectation, most likely something will change and throw your expectations out the window.
The generic stuff.
I live and work in Toronto Ontario. My life partner Daniela and I have a chihuahua named Bruno Ponts Jones. I have a studio in my home, and like to work remotely.
A country boy born and raised by dairy farmers near a place called Omemee Ontario. An isolaited, conservative experience, surrounded by nature, animals, and the workings of a large traditional dairy farm. I knew I would leave the country at a very young age, and after my first trip to Toronto I started to plan my journey here. I was 11 years old. At 19 I managed to get into the interpretive illustration program at Sheridan College. After that I took a two year visual design program. I was a very naive young man, with what I thought were modern ideas, and life goals. I was always facinated with art, comics, science fiction, monster movies, and war machines. Godzilla will always be one of my favourites.
I spent the bunk of my career chasing the dollar in the advertising and marketing industry. It was an exciting and interesting journey that helped hone both my visual, writing, and management skills. During those years my art took a bit of a back seat at times, but I always made room for it in some shape or form. Today my goals have changed, and I have returned back to art and illustration full time. Over the last 5 years it has been, and will continue to be my sole focus. As well I will continue to share details of my journey and write about it.
Life can be way too serious…
I have no musical talent. Never learned to play an instrument. This kind of sums things up for me. Seeing as this page is supposed to be about me, I thought I would indulge a little, and include this short video. It captures how to not be afraid of doing something you are not good at. Doing things poorly or inadequately is better than not doing anything. Besides, the first time we do something do we expect to do it perfectly? I lnow my limits, and won’t be taking this show on the road any time soon. But hey, make sure you try some shit on your journey. Don’t just sit on the sidelines and let everyone else get good, or stay bad at something. Try for yourself not for those around you.
